Jack Black and Kyle Gass are hilarious. I still love their first album - never get tired of hearing those songs or skits. Their new movie/album is out soon. Can't wait. ;D

Tenacious D pre-date the movie by quite a bit. Their first album came out in 2002, and they even had videos (Tribute - the one with the devil and Wonderboy - the one on a mountain) on TV. At least in the UK.
They've also toured a few times before now.
And yes Jack Black really does play in it. He really sings as well. Before School Of Rock he only played acoustic guitar. He had to learn at least a little bit of electric for that movie and someone told me he's learnt more since but I don't know if thats true or not.

The movie is hilarious, I got to see an advance screening of it and i highly recommend it.
