This is the 'Hello my name is...' thread. Kind of like the start of an AA meeting (or so I'm told), but less awkward. And there may not be so much hugging involved.
Anyhoo, to get the ball rolling my name is Katy, or you can call me Just_Me, JM...any other variations on that theme. For reasons I won't go into right now I'll probably also answer to Dani. I live in England in theory, but I'm at university in Wales right now. Oh and I'm 21.
Now onto the interesting stuff. Why am I here? Well its about 50% because I'm a fan of Tommy and 50% because AxlReznor didn't want to make this place all by himself.
But as far as getting into Tommy goes thats an interesting story. Anyone who recognises my avatar may be suprised that I'm here. For those who don't recognise it thats a picture of Duff McKagan, the original bassist for Guns N' Roses and pretty much my favourite musician. (See the problem yet?) Yeah, I'm a massive fan of the old GNR, wasn't so sure about the new GNR, but as part of AxlReznors concerted effort to get me to like them he played me a bunch of Tommys solo stuff, particually Villiage Gorilla Head. And as much as I was (subconciously) expecting, maybe even wanting, to hate it I actually got really into it. Between that and seeing Tommy play all the old GNR stuff (which I was convinced he'd get wrong at least once) note perfect twice I was completely converted, and he's now in line to be probably my second favourite musician.

My name's Tony, or AxlReznor... or asshole as some people may have come to know me. I found out about Tommy in 2000 when I found out that there was a new line-up of Guns N' Roses and they were going to be playing the House Of Blues in Las Vegas. Silly obsessive me, as I am have since made a concerted effort to find out exactly who these people in my favourite band are, and find stuff they've done before (or during GN'R). Which led me to find some great music that is criminally under-appreciated. The most impressive of which involved "General" Tommy Stinson. Perfect's album is probably one of the most hidden treasures in rock. I also came to notice that Tommy had a severe lack of a forum dedicated to him. Tommy... the only man in Guns N' Roses to have dropped out of school at 12 to concentrate on his band only to have consistently released great music ever since! So I made one... let's see how it goes.

My name's adnan, I've been a fan of the Replacements longer than I've been a fan of Gn'R. I think Tommy's 1000000000000X better than Duff, and can't get enough of the guy.

Cool, hi. Glad to see we're attracting Replacements fans as well. That way there will be someone around to answer all the stupid questions I'll undoubtedly come up with in the process of discovering more about them. Edit: Just out of curiosity how did you find this place?

Hello! Didn't know you were a fan of Tommy as well. We're working on adding all kinds of stuff about all Tommys bands/projects, but feel free to discuss any of the stuff already posted. Or post your own if you know of anything we've missed.

Here's my long story.....
I'm Nazareth and i'm 24. My dad had "Appetite" on vinyl when i was a kid, and that was one of the few albums we could agree on. I was more into the grunge scene. I loved Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, etc. I also got into more modern rock bands like the Goo Goo Dolls. I was also (and still am) into the "hair" bands. Def Leppard, Poison, Motley Crue, etc.
Later on (about 13 years old), I got into punk, oi and hardcore. I still listened to the hair bands, but my taste for grunge went out the window. In high school i pretty much only listened to punk. I met kind of a nerdy kid in my class that liked punk and one day he asked me," Do you like the Replacements?" I told him i'd never heard of them and he couldn't believe it. He played me, "Sorry Ma" and i loved it. Then he played me "Let it Be." That one was kinda weird to me (not totally punk), but it intrigued me nonetheless. I then forgot about the 'mats for a couple years.
I began working at a record store out of high school, and one day "All Shook Down" came in. I had forgotten about my high school 'Mats experience, but had remembered John Reznik of the Goo Goo Dolls basically admitting that they ripped off the Replacements. I put "All Shook Down" on and heard the Goos sound immediately in "Merry Go Round," but the rest of the album was much too mellow for me.
Fast forward a couple more years, and i'm working at another record store when "All For Nothing" comes in. The 'Mats best of the major label years. I gave it a listen and loved "Bastards of Young," "Alex Chilton," and "Left of the Dial." The rest of it took a while for me, but I soon began to love it all. From then on, i acquired every 'Mats album and finally remembered my high school experience.
Shortly after discovering the 'Mats, i went to a going out of business sale at a local record store. They had two Paul Westerberg albums for .50 cents a piece. "Eventually" and "Come Feel Me Tremble." The former is polished radio pop rock while the latter is sloppy garage rock. I fell in love with them both (especially CFMT ) and went for all his stuff.
Later, as i became a 'mats devotee, I searched out a few post 'mats releases.
Slim Dunlap - Pass Chris Mars - Pass Bash & Pop - Wow. I loved this record almost immediately. From then on, I sought out all Tommy releases and love them all. Him and Paul are both incredible.
Now, to tie it all back into the first paragraph, I couldn't believe it when Tommy joined GN'R. I loved Gn'r and the 'Mats, but i didn't know how the two would work. When i heard "Oh My God" from the End Of Days soundtrack, i thought it was terrible and could only hope Tommy was getting a nice paycheck. But, I was proven wrong by the leaks. Better, The Blues, etc. all sound great and i would've loved to see them, but they cancelled their date here.
Now, I'm still into old punk rock, power pop and hair metal, but Paul and Tommy are my heroes.

Sounds like you kept getting a lot of hints that this was a band you really would like. Reminds me of me with GNR. ;D
Also thats a pretty wide range of music to be into, which is always nice to see.
Oh and hello as well.
